About the Forum

Voices of lived experience

The Wales Mental Health and Wellbeing Forum is a group of people with lived experience of mental health issues and their friends and families.

The Forum was established in 2013 by the Welsh Government following the development of the Together for Mental Health Strategy which aims to inform people of rights when receiving mental health services.

Our Vision

Our vision is to improve Mental Health and Wellbeing by respecting and empowering people to influence decision making.

We directly influence decision making at a local and national level. Some of the issues we are addressing include:

  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Suicide prevention
  • Care and treatment planning
  • Ending coercive practice and Electro Convulsion Therapy (ECT)

Alongside this, we also campaign for a more holistic, people-led approach. We work with a range of organisations including Welsh Government, Health Boards, Local Authorities and providers of local services.

We are a welcoming group who support each other and would like more people to join us who can bring their unique experiences to the Forum. The Forum is led by its members and normally meets at least three or four times a year, with additional working groups for those who want to be more involved.
